On October 29, the opening ceremony of “The Mediterranean World in the Collections of the Musée du Louvre” sponsored by BOC was held in the National Museum of China. Cai Wu, Minister of Culture, announced the opening of the exhibition. Jean-Luc Martinez (Curator of the Musee du Louvre), Dong Baohua (Deputy Director of the State Administration of Cultural Heritage), Lv Zhangshen (Curator of the National Museum of China), Jacques Pellet (French Minister Counselor to China), and Anthony Chaumuzeau (Cultural Counselor) attended the ceremony.
The 3.5-month exhibition is not only the first heavyweight cooperation between the Louvre Museum and the National Museum of China, two world-class museums, but also a grand event in the cultural exchange history between the two countries. 280 pieces of fancy collections from the Louvre Museum present the developing process of the Mediterranean civilizations chronologically, and demonstrate the clashes, exchanges and integration of different nations and civilizations in the Mediterranean region, which offers inspirations on how countries with varied social institutions and cultural backgrounds pursue harmony, common prosperity, and mutual development.
